What is Reiki?

The word Reiki (pronounced Ray-Key) is a Japanese kanji for universal life-force energy. This energy flows through all that is alive. Healthy Balance offers Reiki to clients in St. John’s, Newfoundland. Working as a support mechanism to the body, Reiki re-establishes a flow of energy throughout the system, which in turn can enhance and accelerate the body’s innate healing ability.

How does Reiki work?

In a Reiki healing session, the practitioner, trained to access and serve as a channel for the life- force energy (ki or chi), places their hands on or just above specific areas of one’s clothed body to allow for the flow of energy through their body. The client’s body then draws off the amount of energy that is required. This energy is self-dispersing, flows naturally where it is needed, and assists in re-balancing of the body’s own energy. Reiki doesn’t just treat the symptoms but goes to the root of the problem.

The Reiki practitioner must be a clear vessel through which the healing energy flows. Combined with a sincere desire of the client, who is willing to effect a cleansing within their consciousness, a harmonic flow of energy is strengthened, within the client and practitioner. This is when healing occurs and physical, mental, emotional and spiritual balance returns. Although the Reiki practitioner plays an instrumental part, ultimately it is up to the client to manifest harmony and balance in their life.

What can Reiki do?

Reiki is used on its own merits as an effective way of assisting with a variety of ailments. It is particularly helpful for assisting the body’s natural healing abilities, reducing pain and stress, increasing vitality, inducing relaxation and generally giving one a sense of balance. Reiki provides a source of restoring energy while one is ill, under medical treatment, in recovery, or before and after surgery.

Reiki is safe to use in conjunction with and compliments other medical treatments, healing methods and therapies, such as acupuncture, chiropractic and psychotherapy to name a few.

What can be expected after a session?

Allow yourself time to come fully back into your awareness after a Reiki session. You may feel so relaxed that you feel a little dazed. It is advised to sit for a few minutes with the soles of your feet on the floor and have some water until you are back completely. Over the next few days, you may notice that you are de-toxifying the waste that has built up in your system. It is advisable to increase your water intake so that the toxins are flushed out more readily. Allow yourself time to rest more, if needed. Most people feel an immediate improvement in their level of pain or quality of sleep. Energy and alertness increase daily and a feeling of overall well being may be noticed.
